Advancing Reliability Together: 2024 Innovations; Our Vision for 2025

Happy New Year from Nobl9! As we step into 2025, we’re proud to celebrate a year of relentless innovation and meaningful impact. In 2024, we didn’t just refine our Service Level Objective (SLO) capabilities - we redefined what’s possible for reliability management. From advanced alerting to customizable dashboards and actionable reporting, every enhancement was driven by one mission: to empower teams - engineers and business leaders alike - with the tools they need to align on reliability and act with confidence. Guided by your feedback, Nobl9 has become more than a platform - it’s a partner in turning reliability into your competitive advantage.

Big Upgrades to SLO Management and Control

Composite SLO 2.0

One of the standout innovations of 2024 was Composite SLO 2.0, a feature built to address customer demand for managing complex service dependencies. This enhancement allows teams to combine multiple Service Level Objectives (SLOs), with SLIs from any data source, into a unified system health indicator that prioritizes critical components through weighted inputs. An intuitive wizard streamlines the mapping process, ensuring clarity without overwhelming users. By consolidating data from interdependent services, Composite SLOs 2.0 makes it possible to evaluate entire workflows or customer journeys rather than isolated components. This holistic view helps pinpoint which dependencies most affect overall reliability, allowing teams to address weak links proactively and make improvements where they matter most.

Error Budget Adjustments

Managing reliability often means balancing planned maintenance with real-world performance, and these scenarios can complicate accurate measurements. Error Budget Adjustments solve this by letting teams exclude specific time periods—such as maintenance windows or intervals affected by data inaccuracies—while preserving the integrity of their overall metrics. Adjustments can be applied to both past and future spans, ensuring error budgets stay reliable and actionable. Because raw data remains unaltered, teams maintain full historical transparency and can revise or remove adjustments whenever needed. With this flexibility, SLO management becomes better equipped to handle day-to-day changes, allowing teams to focus on delivering reliable services.

SLO Details 2.0: A More Immersive Review Experience

In 2024, we launched SLO Details 2.0, introducing a more user-friendly and adaptable way to explore reliability insights. The updated design brings key metrics to the forefront, allowing both technical and non-technical stakeholders to quickly assess the health of critical services. Users have full control over which graphs are displayed and can reorder them to suit the context of their discussions. This adaptability makes cross-functional collaboration more effective by ensuring that everyone is focused on the most relevant data. With clearer visibility into error budgets and service health, SLO Details 2.0 empowers teams to make faster, more informed decisions.

New Dashboards for Operational Clarity on Reliability

A standout addition in 2024 was the Service Health Dashboard by Burn Rate, offering teams a real-time view of how quickly error budgets are being consumed. This feature highlights which SLOs are experiencing the most rapid performance degradation, helping teams prioritize and address critical issues before they escalate. We also enhanced the Service Health Dashboard by Error Budget, introducing updated visuals, alphabetical sorting, and shareable status filters. These improvements ensure that teams can easily monitor key services and stay focused on actionable insights, without dashboards reorganizing as health statuses change. By combining real-time monitoring with customizable views, these tools empower teams to stay ahead of reliability challenges and make data-driven decisions.

System Health Review: Custom Reliability Reporting for Any Audience

In response to customer demand for more tailored reporting, we introduced the System Health Review (SHR) in 2024. This feature breaks down service health or project performance by custom labels, presenting the data in a clear, table-based format. Teams can set and adjust health and reliability thresholds within each report, ensuring metrics stay relevant for different audiences—whether executives, product managers, or engineering teams. For organizations with code-driven workflows, SHR also supports YAML configuration, streamlining integration with automated workflows. By emphasizing flexibility and precision, SHR delivers insights that matter to every stakeholder.

Reliability Alerting That Covers All the Bases

In 2024, we enhanced SLO-based alerting to address a diverse range of reliability needs with greater precision and flexibility. Multi-window, multi-burn-rate alerts enable teams to fine-tune alert conditions for complex scenarios, ensuring timely and actionable notifications. Alerting presets simplify the process of replicating configurations across multiple policies, saving time and reducing errors. When alerts are triggered, the Alert Details screen surfaces key metrics behind the notification, letting teams act quickly with the right context. The Alerting Center also includes heatmaps to visualize historical alerts, helping teams identify recurring issues and reliability hotspots over time. These improvements empower teams to stay ahead of challenges through smarter, more targeted alerts.

Data Collection: Strengthening Integrations for Deeper Insights

Last year, we also expanded and enhanced our integrations to ensure teams can seamlessly connect their preferred data sources with Nobl9. By focusing on flexibility and precision, these updates empower users to bring in metrics from diverse platforms, enabling comprehensive SLO management across their environments. Whether you're analyzing historical data, monitoring real-time performance, or fine-tuning metrics for greater accuracy, Nobl9 now supports even more tools and workflows, ensuring reliability insights are both actionable and accessible.

Quality of Life Enhancements

We also rolled out various improvements that streamline day-to-day tasks and address existing pain points for users:

  • Flexible SLO Details Views: Open SLO Details in separate browser tabs, making it easier to compare multiple SLOs side-by-side.
  • Home Page Selection: Choose any Nobl9 dashboard or report as your default view upon logging in.
  • Label Details View: Quickly see where specific labels are being used and how they’re grouped.
  • Dedicated Pages: Projects and Services now have individual pages with shareable links.
  • In-App Wizard Help: Show or hide contextual guidance as needed.
  • SLO Change History: Helps track who modified SLOs and when, providing a clear audit trail.
